APRIL 1990 Coup D'etat Speech
Fellow Nigerian Citizens, On behalf of the patriotic and well-meaning peoples of the Middle Belt and the southern parts of this country, I, Major Gideon Orkar, wish to happily inform you of the successful ousting of the dictatorial, corrupt, drug baronish, evil man, deceitful, homosexually-centered, prodigalistic, unpatriotic administration of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida. We have equally commenced their trials for unabated corruption, mismanagement of national economy, the murders of Dele Giwa, Major-General Mamman Vasta, with other officers as there was no attempted coup but mere intentions that were yet to materialise and other human rights violations. …

The Plot Against Nigeria
The result of the House of Representatives ‘public sessions’ on the amendment of the 1999 Constitution is the equivalent of a civilian coup, as it appears to have produced a predetermined end Not many Nigerians remembered that last week Monday was the 23rd anniversary of the Gideon Orkar-led failed coup of April 22, 1990. Yet it was an event that not only disgraced the then self-styled military leader, General Ibrahim Babangida, whom it sought to remove from power, but shook the nation to its foundation. Capital Market Rebound: The Forces at Work
The significant appreciation in the share values of many quoted companies witnessed in recent times may have signalled a rebound of the Nigerian capital market. But there are still concerns over the impact of the positive development on investors Despite the three-year lull witnessed in the Nigerian capital market, investors still find the market irresistible. Ibilola and her children had a fulfilling holiday in Dubai, but their experience at the Murtala Muhammed (International) Airport, MMA, Lagos, on arrival from the trip, turned out to be a sore point in their journey. For two hours, Ibilola and other…

Magic Fingers of Traditional Midwives
Traditional birth attendants remain invaluable in the delivery of babies even when some of their orthodox counterparts insist they know too little to take on such a delicate job The incident was something she did not envisage. Joy Ikedi, a 30-year-old mother of two, had always kept her date at the antenatal clinic of Ifako General Hospital, Lagos State. She was careful not to miss any appointment, as her husband and mother-in-law had emphasised the importance of doctors’ counselling and assistance during her pregnancy. Landmines Before Jonathan’s Second Term
Even if President Goodluck Jonathan successfully muscles his way to clinch the ticket of his ruling Peoples Democratic Party, he still faces serious and overwhelming hurdles that may spell doom for his political career and his badly fractious party Last Tuesday, for the umpteenth time, President Goodluck Jonathan said that he was yet to make up his mind as far as 2015 presidential race is concerned. However, in a tone reeking of doublespeak, he promised to tell the nation his decision on the matter by 2014. And for purpose of emphasis, he reiterated that he has not authorised…
