High Heels May Improve Sex Life

High Heels May Improve Sex Life
As an Italian urologist and self-professed lover of shoes, Maria Cerruto, a medical practitioner working in partnership with Illimani Service Incorporated, Florida, US, may have set out to prove that high heels were not as bad for women’s health as some suggest. This is in spite of the fact that high heel shoes have been linked to a number of health challenges ranging from corns to schizophrenia.   The health challenges associated with high heel shoes notwithstanding, Cerruto said her research showed it was time to stand up for the high heels. She said her study of 66 women under 50 found that those who held their foot at a 15 degree angle to the ground, the equivalence of a…

The Danger in Red Meat

The Danger in Red Meat
Are you planning to mark your 40th birthday before cutting out red meat from your diet? Then this might interest you. Recent research findings have shown that the chances of hitting that age is slimmer for people who indulge in processed and unprocessed meat. To reduce the risk of dying from cancer or heart disease, they say, diets rich in beef, hotdogs, sausage, steaks and bacon have to take the back seat.   The advice might sound like bad news, but the Harvard University-based scientists are pointing to a new study which analysed the diets of more than 120,000 men and women in the department of nutrition, Harvard School of Public Health, United States, US. The research was on for…

A Concert Against Cancer

Motunlayo Sofowote
For about five months, Motunlayo Sofowote, founder/president, Glowing Channels Foundation, battled with a life-threatening tumour that shrunk after a ‘farewell’ concert   Within five months, she has had a remarkable experience. It started unexpectedly. Towards the end of November 2011, Motunlayo Sofowote, founder/president, Glowing Channels Foundation, 66, was diagnosed with cervical cancer, a deadly ailment that is said to be responsible for the death of one woman in every hour in Nigeria. For a woman who has been very active over the past few decades, as a writer, an artist, motivational speaker, a philanthropist and a volunteer in a number of activities that have to do with upliftment of humanity, it was a signal to slow down. In her own…

How Maternal Weight Gain Puts Child At Risk
Many mothers-to-be relish the idea of nine months of eating and giving in to cravings of pickles and ice cream. But, a new study indicates that women who gain excessive weight during pregnancy are more likely to have heavier babies, and these children may grow up with long-term adverse health consequences.   To arrive at this research finding, Zachary Ferraro, a PhD candidate at the children hospital of eastern Ontario research Institute at the University of Ottawa, Canada, analysed the weight gain of more than 500,000 mothers in the United States who gave birth to more than 1.1 million infants over a period of 14 years. He also reported that excessive weight gain during pregnancy increases not only the infant’s…
