Court Frees Elumelu

Published in The Nation Written by Administrator
Ndudi Elumelu
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has struck out the N5.2 billion fraud charges brought against Ndudi Elumelu, a member of the House of Representatives from Delta State, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, citing that the lawmaker knew nothing about the contract.   Justice Umar ruled that Elumelu, a former chairman of the House committee on power had no case to answer, on the grounds that “there was no iota of evidence linking him with the N5.2 billion rural electrification project fraud awarded by the Federal Ministry of Power.”   In the ruling, Justice Umar agreed that…

Aderemi Ibirogba
‘No Boko Haram Threat in Lagos’ - Aderemi Ibirogba, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, spoke with TELL’S Ademola Oladosu and Ayodeji Adeyemi on a wide range of issues, including the Lekki toll road controversy, security and welfare of Lagosians.  Excerpts: Is Lagos State government taking the threat of Boko Haram seriously since it has been alleged that the group is planning an attack in the South-west, particularly Lagos? Weakening the Opposition

Oshiomhole and Airhiavbere: The battle line is drawn
Adams Oshiomhole, Edo State governor, moves in for the kill, mopping up loyalists of PDP governorship aspirants aggrieved over recent primary election That the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State has picked its standard-bearer for the July 14, 2012 governorship election in the state is no longer news. Charles Airhiavbere, a retired major general in the Nigerian Army, beat four other contestants for the PDP ticket in a primary election, the outcome of which political observers believe had been predetermined. From all indications, it would have been perhaps the eighth wonder of the world if the outcome of the…

The Return of Hate

Published in The Nation Written by Tajudeen Suleiman
The charred remains of car used in bombing of St. Finbarr's Catholic Church
The suicide attacks on two churches in Jos by Boko Haram rekindle the fire of hate and sectarian violence that has divided the city along religious lines   Samuel Adeloye, a soldier, is not in anyway involved in the crisis that recently engulfed Jos, capital of Plateau State. Rather he is there as a peacemaker. However, today he is one of the victims of the confusion that enveloped the place, following the reprisal attacks that followed the recent bombing of churches in the area. Ironically, when he was attacked in the cause of the reprisal attacks, Adeloye, who was in…
