Twin bomb blasts were successfully carried out by Boko Haram, the Islamist sect that has literally heightened the state of insecurity in Nigeria.
The bomb blasts, which have turned the expected festive period into a mournful day, were strategically targetted at Churches in Jos and Niger State. The St. Theresa's Church in Magdala, Niger State, which is very close to Zuba in Abuja, had its premises shattered by the explosion carried out just about the time it started its Christmas service. The sect also carried a succesful attach on a Church in Jos, the Plateau State capital. In all not less than 40 people have lost their lives, hundreds injured and several properties, worth millions of naira destroyed.
Officials at local hospitals attending to the injured, said the condition of many of the injured, many of whom sustained burns, was serious, and they were in dire need of bigger medical facilities, as well as blood needed to be given to many who had lost so much blood.
