Nigeria's Femi Kuti has been nominated for the Grammy Awards in the World Music category for his album Africa for Africa.
It is the 49year-old Afrobeat musician's third nomination.
His sister Yeni Kuti informed the magazine at the weekend that they are delighted to have another chance to win the coveted prize that will be contested alongside AfroCubism, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Tinariwen.
"We're really happy about this and we hope that it is our year," Yeni said.
There's no shortage of optimism among Femi's fans either as expressed in the words of culture enthusiast Ayoola Ajanaku. "We will turn Lagos into a big party if Femi wins the Grammy," Ajanaku said. “It will be a very big day!”
Femi was nominated last year but lost to Bela Fleck. His first nomination was in 2003 for his album Fight to Win.
The awards will hold on February 12, 2012 at the Staples Centre, Los Angeles.
