Thinking of hosting a major event and getting scared of the possibility of a bomb blast? Then this might interest you. The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC-trained sniffer dogs may just be all you need.
Recently deployed at the inauguration ceremony of Goodluck Jonathan as President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, the NSCDC-trained sniffer dogs were credited for the discovery of suspicious explosives consisting of buried batteries and electric cables at one of the functions organised for the inauguration at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. The dogs also recovered a lost service pistol and apprehended some persons with parcels of marijuana at the inauguration ceremony held at the Eagles Square.
Perhaps if some of these dogs had been deployed at the Louis Edet Police Headquarters, Abuja, the explosion of June 16 that rocked the police base could have been averted. The dogs would simply have sniffed the explosives out.
Maybe, maybe not, because the police too have a canine section and it failed to safe it from the onslaught of the bombers.
