Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden

The mastermind of the Al Qaeda attacks on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York, United States on September 11 2001, Osama Bin Laden, has been killed by US forces in Pakistan.

Osama was killed after special US forces attacked his hide out in a mansion in Abbottabad, a big Pakistani city on Sunday.

American President Barack Obama gave a televised address detailing how the US team carried out the operations and killed Bin Laden after a fire fight and then took custody of his body.

Thousands of Americans have been thronging the Ground Zero, former site of the destroyed Twin Towers, waving American flags and singing songs of victory. Huge crowds have also been seen in front of the White House praising the US effort at finally bringing to justice the terror mastermind who killed more than 3000 people when two commercial planes hit the New York buildings on September 11, 2001.

Due to the sensitivity of the situation, the American government has now given its citizens and embassies worldwide a global travel alert.
