The heavy buzz at the Stratford Station, home station of the Olympic Park, hid the fact that only yards away Nigeria came to the United Kingdom in the form of Nigeria House. Whilst nations of the world sought seriously to contend for medals, Nigeria House became a temporary mecca of sorts for music, theatre, poetry, fashion exhibitions and films from Nollywood.
As you walk into the white building called Nigeria House, you are greeted not with talking drums but with half filled market stalls, which badly needed people to visit and shop. But last week when TELL visited, many Nigerians stayed true to their pockets and refused to buy anything they considered irrelevant, save food and drinks. It did make a few of us people proud to see the white tall building only a short distance from the Olympic Park. It was at this venue Nigerians enjoyed sport and cultural exchange, mix and mingle with eccentrics and sane intellectuals.
