Sex dolls, threaten roles of wives and girlfriends Sex dolls, threaten roles of wives and girlfriends

She moans, gasps and yields to all the steamy demands of her partner. When fully turned on, Jezebel sizzles the senses of her partner, sending him to cloud nine without a sweat.

In the battle of the loins, Jezebel and her silicon sisters are the latest heavyweight champions. With gravity defying jumbo breasts, wiggly fingers, painted nails and vibrating tongues, sex dolls are fast encroaching on the feminine space, threatening to replace wives and girlfriends. And they sure mean business. Many of them are designed with over 100 sensors placed in different strategic parts of the body to make them respond to touch and react the same way a woman would react under the same circumstances. And they come in different sizes, shapes and complexion, depending on the exact taste of their owner.

Jezebel is one of such sex dolls in the passion market threatening to take over the role of wives and girlfriends in the lives of men who have taken to this human size dolls. Fondly referred to as bedroom joy, sex dolls, according to their fans, come with a number of advantages. Many argue that the dolls have no frigid or nagging component. Sagging breasts and post pregnancy bulges are also very distant from them.

According to manufacturers, the brief is to replicate a man’s unique sexual preference. The waist, wrist, buttocks, nose and breasts are created and shaped for the client’s unique fantasy. For a tidy sum, the client buys his doll and takes as many pleasure rides on it as he wants.

There are non-erotic benefits too. For many men who have tasted their apples, the attraction often goes beyond the primary function. A 45-year-old client who goes by the pseudonym, Ta-Bo, has invested $16,000 in sex dolls. Each night, he watches television with his dolls before taking them to bed. “A human girl can cheat on you or betray you sometimes, but these dolls never do those things…Sometimes it takes too much time before I can have sex with the person I meet. But with these dolls, it’s just a matter of a click of the mouse…’’ he says. Like many clients, Ta-Bo uses a pseudonym to protect his identity when making his order on line.

And it is good business manufacturing them. In fact, manufacturers like Orient Industry Company, Japan, are not shutting down soon. Yoshio Namakura, a manager says, the trick is to play on the client’s taste. “Japanese guys like the cute, innocent look. The passive-looking, non-aggressive woman is what they want. They don’t want someone who is going to give them a hard time,” Namakura said. He also discloses that customers are usually middle-aged men, but purchases by 80-year-olds are not uncommon.

He adds that, “when a woman’s libido goes down, the woman might say to the husband: I’ve lost interest.” But there are no dull moments with sex dolls who do not ask for house keeping allowances, never gets tired or suffer mood swings.

The more reason women are no longer finding the idea of sex dolls funny. Maureen Ajekigbe, a Lagos-based business woman says human relationships can never be replaced by any form of silicon. “I don’t think these people are serious. You don’t want a nagging and frigid wife, but can your silicon give you children or wash your socks for you? I believe it is not a realistic approach in solving a problem,’’ she retorts.

Funke Anjorin, a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, sees the development as a sign of the end time. “I wish them good luck. I wonder what technology the world will produce next. You cannot cut off your head to cure a headache. It is disgusting to me,’’ she says.

Sex dolls are made from silicon, a technology that gives them an almost human feel. They are said to have skins that are 99.8 per cent that of the human being. Each of the sex dolls appear very much like a human being that they come with pubic hair, well- manicured nails and detachable vagina.

Produced in many European countries, its prices range between $6,000 and $8,000. China as usual is taking the lead in the passion business. As at 2010, her sex toy market is said to be worth over $10b.
